On the morning of November 1, a family was eating breakfast. The father asked his son, “Did you push the outhouse into the creek last night?”
The previous evening was Halloween. Without hesitation, the son told his father the truth. “Yes, Pa. As a Halloween prank, a few of my friends and me pushed our outhouse into the creek last night.”
The father determinedly rose from his chair, left the room, and returned with his razor “strop”. The son knew what was about to happen and tried to plead his case.

The Union County Board of Education will meet in Executive Session on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. at the Union County Board of Education Central Office for the purpose of discussing pending litigation.

“I need to get outside!” I grabbed my phone and ran past Tim to go out of the basement door. As I stepped out onto the patio, I saw a streak of light disappear behind a tree. “Are you kidding me?”

Refrigerated biscuits are fun to work with. Then have a slightly different texture than homemade biscuits. Surprise everyone with their date centers. Fun to make. Your kids could help you. Set aside 1/2 of melted butter. Divide rest between two 8-inch ring molds, coating sides well. Put 2 tablespoons syrup in bottom of each mold. Mix brown sugar, cinnamon and almonds. Set aside half of this mixture. Sprinkle rest in the molds over syrup. Pit dates ...

There weren't supposed to be any water moccasin in East Tennessee. Supposedly, the winters were too cold here for them to survive. Timber rattlers and copperheads abound in this area, especially where the ridges are undisturbed. We were told not to worry because there were no cottonmouths this far north. Not so. Let me tell you about it.

Fall coloration of trees in our area is a much looked for event. The presence of vast forests having brilliant fall foliage is more unusual than you think, as the only other places in the world with a similar abundance of foliage colorations are northern China, Korea, and Japan. A common question this time of year is: will the colors be good or not? The answer is meteorological.

Hunters and community members from across the region gathered on Saturday for a hands-on Deer Processing Class hosted at Johnson’s Deer Processing & Taxidermy, located at 520 W Mountain View Road in Corryton. The class was led by Tyler Johnson, who provided a live demonstration and detailed instruction on how to properly and safely field dress a deer.

Veterans Day on November 11 is an opportunity to celebrate and thank the Veterans who have served and protected our country and our way of life. On Saturday, November 15, Union County Veterans, their family members, and anyone who simply wants to show their appreciation for our Veterans, will gather at Wilson Park from 11:00 to 2:00. The American Legion Post 212 will supply 8 -10 smoked pork butts for your free lunch. There will be bands, kids' games, the UCHS JROTC, and more! Watch this space for details and SAVE THE DATE!!

The purpose of spinal manipulation, also called spinal adjustment, is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile — or restricted in their movement — as a result of a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture over an extended period of time.
