Fresh Wagon Celebrates Five Years of Serving Union County Families

Maynardville, Tenn. – Fresh Wagon is celebrating their five year anniversary of providing locally sourced food to families of Union County and the surrounding areas by hosting an event at 12:00pm on June 16th at First Bank Maynardville.

Fresh Wagon is a mobile food distribution program that works to provide community members with local meat, dairy, eggs, honey, jellies, and produce with an emphasis on local farm partnerships. These partnerships have led to over $20,000 being given back to the local food economy.

Fresh Wagon was founded in 2019 from a grant from the American Cancer Society to bring food to isolated areas of Union County, provide nutrition education to the community, and provide volunteers with education of food insecurity and health equity.

In 2025, a total of 714 families received food from the Fresh Wagon with a 3,300% increase in families served over the duration of the program. Through the efforts of everyone involved in Fresh Wagon, community food drives for holiday distributions have also been implemented. These efforts provided an additional 169 food bags for families in need around the holiday season.

In addition to providing nutrition, Fresh Wagon also works to provide education and resources for participants. Topics for education span from tobacco cessation to skin and breast cancer awareness. Resources including Narcan are also often distributed.

The next Fresh Wagon distribution will be held June 16th at 12:00pm during the event at First Bank Maynardville.
