Free Diabetes Education Class Offered in Union County

Union County residents living with diabetes or caring for someone with diabetes are invited to participate in Take Charge of Your Diabetes, a free six-week educational series designed to help individuals better manage their condition and improve quality of life.

The program will be held on January 13, 20, and 27, and February 3, 10, and 17, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Union County Senior Center. The classes will be led by Abigail Thomas, Union County Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Agent, along with Anna-Marie Cooksey, Union County Health Educator.

Take Charge of Your Diabetes is an evidence-based program that helps participants learn practical skills for managing diabetes day to day. Topics include healthy eating, physical activity, monitoring blood sugar, managing stress, working with healthcare providers, and setting realistic goals. The program empowers participants to take an active role in their health rather than letting diabetes control their lives. As one past participant shared, the program helped them “feel back in control” after struggling with pain, fatigue, and the challenges of diabetes management

There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. Interested individuals are encouraged to sign up by January 2.

For more information or to register, please contact Abigail Thomas at 865-992-8038. This program is open to all eligible community members and is a great opportunity to gain support, education, and confidence in managing diabetes
