DATE COFFEE RINGS
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/3 cup maple syrup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 cup slivered almonds
20 California dates
2 cans refrigerated biscuit dough

Set aside 1/2 of melted butter. Divide rest between two 8-inch ring molds, coating sides well. Put 2 tablespoons syrup in bottom of each mold. Mix brown sugar, cinnamon and almonds. Set aside half of this mixture. Sprinkle rest in the molds over syrup. Pit dates and place one in the center of each biscuit. Drizzle with a little of the syrup and sprinkle with a little sugar mixture. Gently stretch biscuit to enclose the date and form a ball. Dip in melted butter and place in molds over sugar mixture. Sprinkle rest of sugar evenly on top. Bake at 400 F. for 20 to 25 minutes. Invert onto serving plate and let stand a few minutes before lifting pan off rolls. Drizzle with a thin powdered sugar icing and serve. Makes 2 coffee rings.
