Union County 4-H Excels at FCS Skill-A-Thon

The Union County Jr. High 4-H team recently competed in the Eastern Region Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Skill-A-Thon, held in McMinn County. This hands-on contest gives youth the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in areas such as food and nutrition, child development, clothing and textiles, and housing and interior design. Participants rotate through a series of skill stations where they solve real-world problems and apply what they have learned.

Union County Youth Shine at Eastern Region 4-H Goat Show

Union County was well represented at the Eastern Region 4-H Goat Show held during the Tennessee Valley Fair on September 14th. Local 4-H members showcased their skills and dedication by placing high in their respective classes, excelling in showmanship, and performing strongly in the skill-a-thon competition.

The event highlighted not only the hard work of the youth but also their sportsmanship and commitment to excellence. Each participant demonstrated the knowledge and responsibility gained through their 4-H project work, making Union County proud.

Union County 4-H to Host Back-to-School Brunch

Union County 4-H is inviting local youth to kick off the new school year with a morning full of fun, food, and fellowship! The 4-H Back to School Brunch will be held Saturday, August 16th at 10 AM, hosted by the Union County 4-H Honor Club.

The event is open to all students in 4th–12th grade and will feature free food, games, and plenty of activities to get excited about the school year ahead. Youth are encouraged to wear their favorite school-appropriate pajamas and enjoy a make-your-own pancake station along with delicious brunch sides.

Union County 4-H sews with purpose for humane society

On Tuesday, July 22, a group of Union County 4-H youth gathered at the Extension office to participate in a special sewing service project benefitting the Union County Humane Society (UCHS). The youth spent the day sewing cozy cat bed blankets to provide comfort for the shelter’s feline residents.

Kindergarteners learn the 'Power of Positivity'

In April, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent Abigail Thomas and Union County 4-H Teen Leader Jaelyn Cummings partnered to bring the Healthy Me pilot program to Whitney Copeland’s kindergarten class at Big Ridge Elementary School. Over the course of six visits, students participated in engaging lessons designed to promote emotional wellness, social skills and mindfulness.

UC 4-H hosts 2025 baking contest

The Union County 4-H held its annual County Baking Contest, showcasing the incredible culinary talents of local youth. The competition, held on at the Union County Extension Open House, featured a variety of delicious baked goods, with each grade level assigned a specific category. Participants demonstrated creativity, skill and passion for baking, making it a delightful and delicious event for all involved.

UC 4-H Photography Contest winners announced

The Union County 4-H program recently hosted its annual Photography Contest, providing a platform for young photographers across the county to exhibit their talents. Participants captured compelling images across various categories, demonstrating both technical skill and artistic creativity. After thorough evaluation, the judges have announced the winners.

The photography contest was displayed at the Extension Office Open House on March 27, where attendees had the opportunity to view the impressive entries and support the young photographers.
