Horace Maynard Middle School’s Red Ribbon Week is an annual campaign dedicated to promoting drug prevention and a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The week included a highly successful and well-attended Family Night, designed to connect students and families with crucial community resources and provide a night of fun and engagement.

Horace Maynard Middle School students have had a busy and engaging start to the school year, with several community professionals sharing their time and expertise in the first four and a half weeks. These guests have provided valuable lessons in both skilled trades and character development.

HMMS hosts Meet & Greet for coaches and community

Horace Maynard Middle School recently hosted a well-attended Meet & Greet event for its athletic coaches, and the evening was a huge success. Families, students, and community members packed the cafeteria to put names with faces—including newly hired coaches and returning coaches across nearly every sport offered at HMMS.

This event gave the community a chance to connect with the people who help shape student-athletes both on and off the field. It also served as a great way to kick off the upcoming athletic seasons and build excitement around HMMS’s extracurricular programs.

HMMS welcomes new athletic director and vice principal

Horace Maynard Middle School is proud to announce two exciting additions to its leadership team for the upcoming school year.

Coach DJ Taylor has been named the new Athletic Director at HMMS. A 1998 graduate of Clinton High School, Coach Taylor enlisted in the U.S. Army during his senior year and went on to serve for 17 years, including multiple combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

New HMMS course ignites passion for teaching

At Horace Maynard Middle School, education takes center stage with a new offering for motivated 8th-grade students: Introduction to Teaching as a Profession. This fast-paced, high school credit course is designed to spark interest in the world of education by giving students an early look into what it means to be a teacher and a leader in the classroom.

HMMS celebrates outstanding year

Horace Maynard Middle School has finished the school year on a high note, with students and teams excelling across academics, athletics and extracurriculars.

Over 50 percent of the 8th grade class will leave HMMS with high school credits—a testament to their hard work and academic focus. Even more impressively, six standout students are leaving with three high school credits each, giving them a major head start on their high school journey.

Exciting Upcoming Event: 6th Grade Night at Horace Maynard Middle School

Horace Maynard Middle School is excited to welcome future students and their families to the upcoming 6th Grade Night, scheduled for Monday, April 29th from 5:30 to 6:00 PM. This special event is designed to give rising 6th graders a preview of life at HMMS and help ease the transition into middle school.

HMMS Tennis Team Off to a Fantastic Start

The HMMS Tennis team have had some incredible performances this year, showcasing not only their talent on the court but also their sportsmanship and positive attitudes. The results are speaking for themselves! In a match against JFWA on April 2nd, the team won all three doubles matches and won ten out of eleven singles matches. The teams played again on April 8th, and HMMS won all five doubles matches and eight out of nine singles matches. With these remarkable performances, the team proved they are truly a force to be reckoned with.

HMMS softball off to a great start

The Horace Maynard Middle School girls' softball team has made incredible progress and shown consistent growth to kick off the season.

Coach Lindsay Wagganer shared, “We have played some tough teams so far, including Rutledge, Cumberland Gap and Clinton, and our hard work has paid off with a 4-1 record. Each practice is an opportunity to improve, and the dedication from our players is evident in their performance on the field.”

The softball team is currently in first place in the district.

Baseball field to be named for John Edds

We are thrilled to announce a very special event to celebrate the legacy of Coach John Edds, with a dedication of our middle school baseball field in his honor. The ceremony will take place on April 3 at 5 p.m., and we invite all former players and community members to join us as we recognize the incredible contributions John made to the baseball program.
