HMMS Welcomes Community Professionals for Hands-On Learning

HMMS Students Learning Masonry Skills

HMMS Students Learning Masonry Skills

Horace Maynard Middle School students have had a busy and engaging start to the school year, with several community professionals sharing their time and expertise in the first four and a half weeks. These guests have provided valuable lessons in both skilled trades and character development.
The Masonry Institute of Tennessee recently visited 6th and 7th grade CTE classes. Students received a hands-on introduction to masonry, working in teams to lay blocks, measure their work accurately, and participate in a friendly competition. The school is grateful to Dustin Love and Kendra Campbell for giving students a practical look into a career in the trades.
In addition to career-focused activities, students also received important lessons in personal development. Assistant Chief Jerry Lawson spoke with 6th graders about essential life skills, including character development, kindness, and respect for others. His visit provided students with inspiring words and guidance on becoming responsible and respectful members of the community.
Horace Maynard Middle School is thankful for all the individuals who have volunteered their time to pour into the students and provide them with these enriching, real-world learning experiences.
