Carpenter Bee Damage

By Steve Roark
Volunteer, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park

From personal observation and talking with others, it seems to be a good year for carpenter bees, as there are plenty of them. Usually when I get asked about them it’s how to get rid of them.

Frozen Shoulder

‘Frozen shoulder’ is a term sometimes used loosely in connection with any type of persistent shoulder pain. But specifically it is the loss of arm movement at the shoulder joint. The shoulder is the part of the body that is the third most common subject for chiropractic treatment, the lower back and the neck being the two most common.

Half Looked

Whenever I go through a small problem, I usually experience three emotions in this order: confusion, panic, relief, and embarrassment.
A good example of this recently happened when I made a quick stop at the grocery store one morning on my way to work. There I bought a drink, a snack, and something for lunch. Once I reached my car, I sat my bag of goodies in the passenger floorboard. Then I glanced down to the keyring in my hand and I was immediately confused. Something wasn’t right, but I wasn’t sure what it was. Then the realization hit me. My car key was no longer on my keyring.

Moss the Carpet of the Forest

By Steve Roark
Volunteer Cumberland Gap National Historical Park

Walking in the woods you are bound to rocks, soil, even the base of trees covered with a thick, green carpet. Moss may appear fairly plain, but it has a few features that call for more attention. It is an old and venerable life form unique to other plants you find in the forest.

TEL

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Rev. Joe McCoy this past week. Preacher Joe was my pastor at the First Baptist Church of Maynardville for eight years. That was the time of life when I ended my undergraduate education at Lincoln Memorial University and began my career as a Union County educator.
I attended Preacher Joe’s funeral service just last evening. I have never attended a funeral service that was more of a testimony to the life lived by the one being eulogized.
