UC FCE raises funds at yard sale

Union County Family and Community Education (FCE) held its August meeting at the Union County Extension Office. This month’s meeting featured a yard sale fundraiser, which proved to be a great success.

Members brought a wide variety of items including clothing, jewelry, children’s items, home décor, and household goods. Community members showed up in wonderful support, browsing the sale and helping raise funds to support our FCE programs. A special clothing deal at noon added excitement, allowing shoppers to fill a grocery bag with clothes for just five dollars.

Union County FCE extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated items, helped organize, and especially to those in the community who came out to shop. Your support ensures that FCE can continue its mission of strengthening families, serving the community, and promoting education throughout the county.

Looking ahead, the group will not meet on the regular third Thursday of September. Instead, members will participate in two exciting opportunities:

FCE Day at the Tennessee Valley Fair – Tuesday, September 9, at the Jacob Building in Knoxville. The theme for this year’s event is “Goat Big, Blossom Bright.” Members will carpool from the Union County Extension Office and enjoy a day of fellowship, exhibits, and fair fun.

Eastern Region Fall Meeting – Monday, September 15, at the Sullivan County Extension Office in Blountville. With the theme “It’s Harvest Time in FCE,” the meeting will include educational sessions, the Cultural Arts Contest, and the Fashion Revue Contest. Union County FCE members will carpool together to this meeting as well.

Union County FCE invites anyone interested in learning more about membership to contact Abigail Thomas, Union County FCS Agent, at 865-992-8038 or athom237@utk.edu.
