Plainview installs recorder and awards donations

At the May 12, 2026, meeting of the Plainview Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BMA), Mayor Lynn Beeler installed Jessica Buck as the new recorder. Ms. Buck has been training with Emily Cooke, the former recorder, during April and May. Ms. Buck commented to this reporter that she really enjoyed working at Plainview. She is in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 to 4:00.

The ISO rating impacts fire insurance costs. Police Chief Crider and Chief Woods are assisting the city with insurance audit findings and also with training. The award to Imagination Library enables books to be distributed to children under the age of 5. The program is administered by an independent board under the cooperation of the Governor's Early Literacy Program and the Dollywood Foundation. The nonprofit is under the umbrella of the Union County Heritage Festival, but maintains separate leadership and finances. Imagination Library also is very thankful for the continuous support of early literacy by Plainview.

Police Chief Crider reported 66 calls for service, 7 citations, 9 traffic offenses, and 4 arrests by Plainview officers.

Fire Chief Brad Woods reported 76 calls in 2026 and reminded everyone that after May 15, no burn permit is required unless drought conditions force a burn restriction or burn ban.
