On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Jerry Lawson recited the oath of office to become the Plainview Police Chief. Nearly all of the Plainview Aldermen as well as several citizens and Sergeant Johnny Collins witnessed the ceremony performed by Mayor Lynn Beeler. Jerry's family also was in attendance. Before the ceremony, Reverend Gary Beeler asked for the Lord to keep the officers and officials safe.

Chief Lawson has over 20 years of experience in law enforcement. His duties have included most every position from a patrol officer to an assistant sheriff. After the installation, Chief Lawson echoed the words of Preacher Beeler when he said that he intended to do his best to serve the people of Plainview by first serving his Lord and trying to be an example of a person of faith as he works to protect everyone. Lawson replaces former Chief Kenny Crider, who accepted a position with the sheriff's office.

At least one citizen noted that Union County's loss is Plainview's gain!

On Friday, September 18, 2026, Plainview Mayor Lynn Beeler installed Canaan Blankenship to fill the part time officer position that had been vacant for awhile. Canaan's regular employment is at ORNL. His family and several Plainview officials were also on hand to witness the installation service and welcome Canaan to Plainview.

Finally, Plainview's Police Force is fully staffed with Chief Jerry Lawson, Sergeant Johnny Collins, and Officer Canaan Blankenship. Congratulations, Gentlemen, you have the community's support!
