Plainview approves campground ordinance
Ordinance 169 was the main topic of discussion at both the Plainview Planning Commission and the Board of Aldermen meetings on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Plainview City Hall. The Planning Commission recommended Ordinance 169, the Campground Ordinance, for approval since the requirement of fire hydrants every 500 feet was added to the ordinance. Alderman Josh Collins asked Stewart Skeen, Zoning Official, to clarify what zones could have campgrounds developed. Mr. Skeen stated that a primitive campground may be located in AR-1 and a recreational vehicle campground may be developed only in R-3. Alderman Rebecca Lock commented that many of the requirements seemed excessively restrictive. Finally, Ordinance 169 was approved 4 to 1 with Ms. Lock voting against the motin.
Stewart Skeen, Zoning Official, reported that he had recorded the Ballard plat and given copies to the property owners. A letter of renewal was sent to the state for Heritage Place. He wrote one permit for a mobile home in Woodbury Mobile Home Park on Monday Road. He fielded questions by phone regarding multifamily dwellings and was notified by Eddie Perry that he intended to open a second real estate office next to Rondo's. The Planning Commission also approved the subdividing of a minor lot owned by Headrick on Monday Road to allow a family member to have a dwelling. He noted that the updated map of Plainview had arrived and needed approval .Commissioners approved the new map of Plainview with one correction, the Curtis property should be AR-1.
The Board of Aldermen Meeting lacked the fire and police reports because Chief Woods had a work conflict and Police Chief Crider was working a wreck with injury at Ailor Gap and Tazewell Pike.
