“Take a Country Road” to UT Extension Union County, 3925 Maynardville Highway, on Wednesday, September 29, and bring your best pie to enter the Union County Heritage Festival Pie Baking Contest.
UT Extension Union County will host the pie contest. Alyshia Victoria, Food and Consumer Science Agent, will be the coordinator.
Fruit, nut, and other are the categories. Winning pie bakers will receive cash prizes and ribbons.
At Wilson Park, over 100 vendors competed for various booth awards at the 2019 Union County Heritage Festival last Saturday. A&B Bookkeeping & Tax Service claimed The Rocky Top award for the best portrayal of the festival theme. The Best Heritage Award for the best example of Union County history portrayed in a craft went to Martin Shafer for making maul handles on an Ole' Time Hit 'n Miss Engine & Lathe. Ralph Webster of Webster's Woodcrafts won Best Unique Craft Item for his handmade Black Walnut Bowl.

The smell of pumpkin pie warm from the oven always turns my thoughts to fall. The aroma of an apple pie cooling on the kitchen counter tells me color season will soon be here. As September heads toward October, the thought of pecan pie with vanilla ice cream fills my head. If you like pie, then you will want to visit the 4H Booth at the Union County Heritage Festival on October 7, in Wilson Park. Steve Thompson of Beverage Solutions Group and Union County UT Extension will again team up to host the Heritage Festival Pie Baking Contest and provide the pies for the 4H Booth.
