He was preceded in death by his parents, Maggie Cooke Monroe and Ural Leonard “Sheepie” Monroe, stepmother, Mary Edna Monroe, sons Anthony Glenn Monroe and Christopher Leonard Monroe, and his beloved wife of over 50 years, Peggy Adams Monroe.
He leaves a large family to mourn his passing including daughters Lisa (Scott) Starbuck and LeAnn (JR) Humphrey, brothers, Donald (Carolyn) Monroe, Kenny (Sheila) Monroe, Randy (Kathy) Monroe and Jimmy (Precia) Monroe, sisters Diane (Cris) Warwick and Vickie (Dennis) Gibson, granddaughters Nikki Monroe and Lauren (Brandon) Burkett, great-granddaughters, Emily Parton, Cheyenne Smith, Mary Elizabeth Florida, Lexi Monroe, Charlee Burkett and Layne Burkett as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, and a host of friends.
Glenn and Peggy had a very full life together and raised four children in Halls Crossroads, where they were active and engaged members of the community. Glenn operated two service stations in Halls for many years before going to work for Norfolk Southern Railroad. Peggy worked as a retail administrative assistant and in the insurance industry after their children were raised. They loved spending time on Norris Lake and hosted many family events and outings there. They were a fixture at local C&W dances with friends. Above all, they ensured their children had the best possible childhood and that their family knew they were greatly loved.
The family will receive friends on March 27th at Trinity Funeral Home from 5-7 pm, followed by funeral services at 7 pm. Graveside services will be held at Monroe Cemetery in Maynardville at 11 am on March 28th. Pastor James Allan officiating at both services.
