Betty Louise Tharp-age 67 of Luttrell, born Betty Louise Cooper on August 31, 1959, to Estel and Idell Cooper, passed away Monday, September 21, 2026. At the age of 17 Betty married the love of her life, Michael Lynn Tharp Sr., on November 27, 1976. Betty was a devoted mother to her son, Michael Lynn Tharp Jr., and daughter, Michelle Ann Hensley. She was also a beloved “Mamaw” a title that she wore proudly and that brought her tremendous joy. It was no secret that being Mamaw was one of her favorite roles in life. Betty loved the outdoors and could often be found working in her garden, doing yard work or simply enjoying time outside. She also had an incredible creative spirit and loved crafting. There seemed to be nothing Betty could not make once she set her mind to it, whether she was growing something with her own hands or creating something from scratch, she had a special way of turning ordinary things into something special.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Lynn Tharp Sr.; her parents, Estelle and Idell Cooper; her brothers, Clifford “Bunk” Hutchinson, Roger Cooper, and Benny Cooper; her mother and father-in-law, Velma and Coy Tharp; and beloved family members, including her sisters-in-law, Linda Washam and Dee Anna Cooper; her brother-in-law, Coy “Dick” Tharp, each of whom held a special place in Betty’s life.

Betty is survived by her son, Michael Lynn Tharp Jr. and his wife, Melissa; her daughter, Michelle Ann Hensley and her husband, DeWayne; her grandchildren, Melanie, Jonathan, Hannah, Mason, Haley, and Tara; her great-grandchild, Abbey; and her sisters, Lois Beason and Linda Welch, along with many nieces and nephews.

Betty’s life was reflected in the things she loved, the things she created, and, most importantly, the family she built and cherished throughout her life. The things made by her hands will remain treasured reminders of her, but the love she gave her family will be the greatest part of her legacy.

Betty was a devoted Tennessee Volunteers fan, and her family will honor her by wearing orange and white—the colors of the team she loved and cheered for every Saturday win or lose. If guest would like to join in honoring her, they are welcome to do the same.

The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Thursday, September 24, 2026, with funeral service to follow at 8 PM, Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Rev. Wade Brantley officiating. Interment 2 PM Friday, September 25, 2026, Baker Cemetery, Luttrell, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Michael. Family and friends will meet 1 PM Friday at the funeral home to go with the procession. Pallbearers: Cody O’Mary, Jody Muncey, Dody Roach, Mason Wynn, Johnny Cooper, and Anthony Williams. Honorary pallbearers: Brian Beason, Shelton Beason, Douglas Beason, and Darrell Welch. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made at the funeral home towards the funeral expenses.
