My great-aunt Bonnie Peters turned 90 April 1 this year. She’s the Union County Historian. She requested me to do a painting of the home place. This was my great-grandparents home, Dempsey and Elsie Heiskell. The house is no longer there, but Bonnie had a good black and white photo of it dated back in 1963, which is before my time. I do remember visiting there when I was a little girl. The house was located on Heiskell Road. The farm was divided up and several family members have tracts of it and part of it is now the Walnut Pointe Subdivision.

A chiropractic exam is a pain- and stress-free procedure that will ultimately provide you with a boost in your quality of life. Through the exam, a chiropractor will be able to determine what steps to take to either correct a problem or to maintain a healthy condition.

The doctor will check the range of motion for various joints, including the neck. How far you can turn your head to the left and right can indicate whether you have a subluxation — the technical term for a misalignment of bones — in your spine. The chiropractor may also examine your spine by palpation — by touch.

I have noticed that there are two things people are curious about when a baby is born: it’s gender and which relatives he or she will favor. For instance, the first time I saw my grandson Maverick, I tried to see who he resembled. It was so amazing seeing the different people in him. That being said, the genetic combination I had imagined him having was nothing like the wonderful one the Lord chose.

New building construction for schools was a central topic at the regular Union County Board of Education Meeting in April. The school system has multiple projects at Union County High as well as the new middle school construction. Walls are being constructed for the TCAT /WSCC high school addition.

A blue sky has a positive impact on our psyche, not only being something beautiful to behold but also foretells a day of nice weather. The blue is even more enhanced if there are bright white clouds present. This leads to the question perhaps you hadn’t thought of: why is the sky blue? Prepare yourself for a short physics lesson.

Union County Public Schools hosted a Networking with the Legislators Breakfast on May 1. Rebecca Lock, Legislative Liaison for the UC Board of Education, planned the event for the chance to mingle and learn about educational achievements and legislative actions. Attendees were greeted by the Navy JROTC and escorted to the UCHS Library.

On April 29th, members of the Union County FCE traveled to Kingston, TN, for the Eastern Region FCE "Spring Into FCE" event, an annual gathering that brings together members from across the region for a day of learning, networking, and community building.

The event featured a variety of activities, including live Bluegrass and Gospel music, which set the tone for an enjoyable morning. Attendees had the opportunity to explore the Blossom and Bee Boutique, a fundraiser for FCE.
