Be Still

I may be writing this for myself, because I am a bona fide Type A person. I’m always engaged in some activity, making lists to check off, mind constantly engaged in problem solving or accomplishing some goal… pretty much from the time I get up to the time I go to bed. And worthy things do get done for church, family, and job. But there is a potential cost to all this in the form of exhaustion and burn out, unless you take time and get away to a quiet place and be still for a little while.

It’s Dead Tim!

“Do you hear that mom? Who’s yelling?” Sara asked. She was about nine years old at that time. It was a Saturday morning and we were relaxing and playing one of her computer games.

I shrugged. “It’s probably just your daddy talking to one of the neighbors.” If you live on a farm and you see a neighbor outside, you have to yell if you want to talk to them.

Seconds later, Tim burst through the front door. “You all need to come outside a minute! I want to show you something.”

Groundhog: Soon to be Roadkill?

Golly, I hope not. That fat furry Feb two feller will soon be in the news. It is the only day he gets to shine. Atlanta's Col. Beauregard Lee is our weather forecaster around here. There is a feller up in Pennsylvania, but what does he know about the South? I will stick with our local boy.

Is Chiropractic Treatment for Low Back Pain Safe?

Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic, however, are very small. Many patients feel immediate relief following chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness, stiffness or aching, just as they do after some forms of exercise.

The Priceless Gift (your heritage)

Have you ever heard stories of people who would never share or spend money, live as if they had no money, then die friendless, leaving behind a mattress full of cash? Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge who was in danger of living such a life. He never realized he was carrying around an invisible chain he created himself, because of his unwillingness to show any concern for his fellow man. Could current day Christians be weaving their own chain by ignoring their ancestors?

Perfection Salad

Have you ever eaten Perfection Salad? It is one of my favorites. Back in the day, you would see at least one at every potluck on the end of the table among the several macaroni salads. It is one of those dishes they say we are tired of. Not so. If I should be fortunate enough to spy one at a potluck, I wIll plop a good-sized spoonful on my plate and probably go back for more.

Let Go and Let God

With the passing of time, it is essential to have the understanding of the importance of cherishing the little moments in life. Being able to enjoy these seconds to their fullest means the outburst of laughter, sharing of wisdom, and enhanced intuitiveness. Sandra Greene’s life is a depiction of this wisdom and peace.

Its Time for Chocolatefest

The Knoxville Chapter of the Kidney Foundation started Chocolatefest more than twenty-five years ago at Knoxville Center. Eventually, the chapter decided to forego the yearly event. When one of the former board members had an urge to bring the festival back, she asked past Chocolatefest judge and local radio personality Jennifer Johnsey if she would help. Luckily, Jennifer was happy to oblige.

Romans 2:29
“But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.”
