Union County Mayor Jason Bailey installed six elected officials at the August county commission meeting. He administered the oath of office to Randy Turner, Assessor of Property, and David Cox, Road Superintendent.
Then at the BOE meeting, the four newly elected Union County School Board members took their oath: Charles Hamilton (1st District), Terry Washam (2nd District), Jimmy Carter (4th District) and Harold Cooke (6th District).

At the March County Commission meeting, Union County Mayor Jason Bailey presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Carol Pratt, who founded and led the Union County Arts Council for more than eight years, and for the council’s donation to the new UC Heritage Park.

While the pandemic ravaged the nation last spring, the Union County Business and Professional Association Board and Past Presidents worked through small groups and online to revamp and energize its service to its membership.

That description is quite fitting of the Mayor of Plainview, Gary D. Chandler. Having an interest in making his community better, Chandler began serving as Plainview City Alderman in 2003. He was elected Plainview City Mayor 10 years ago and is currently serving his third term. Chandler is the third mayor to serve the City of Plainview in its 28-year history.

On Saturday, August 25, 2018, Dr. Jason Bailey was sworn into office as Mayor of Union County. I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Bailey to discuss his ideas and plans for the county. After our discussion, it became obvious that Dr. Bailey and HistoricUnionCounty.com have one goal in common: to promote all the positive attributes of Union County.

On Saturday, August 25, 2018, the Union County officials were sworn in before officially taken office on September 4th. Their friends and family, as well as the general public, filled the commons area at Union County High School to witness the ceremony. For some this ceremony marks a new chapter in their life and for others it is a continuing of their legacy and service to Union County and its citizens. All officers took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the State of Tennessee and the Constitution of the United States to the best of their ability with God's help.

The results are in and the winners are the citizens of Union County. Why? This election was decided on the issues; the important issues facing all of Union County.
