Aurora Pulliam and Tina Guinn from the Tennessee Valley Authority presented Union County with a grant check for $30,000 at the Union County Commission meeting on April 25, 2022. The grant will address the erosion at the campground on Beech Island that could negatively impact the environment.
Pulliam, who manages the recreational agreement between TVA and Union County explained that Union County Mayor Justin Bailey had initiated a request for a review by TVA after the marina discovered a concerning erosion problem in the campground area in 2020.

The Tennessee Department of Education Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund 3.0 (ESSER) money (which comes from federal emergency funds to combat the negative effects from the pandemic) may help Union County jump start its new middle school planning

Horace Maynard Middle School (HMMS) received a grant of $2,500 from the Tennessee Valley Authority, in partnership with Bicentennial Volunteers Incorporated for a STEM (science, technology, education, and math) education project.

Red Devils Baseball Lose in a Close Game Against Campbell County. The Red Devils traveled to Campbell County on April 17. Trot Russell started out on the mound and lasted 3 innings, but was relieved by Eben Hansen in the fourth inning after giving up 2 runs to tie the game at 5. The two teams were tied going into the last inning. Hansen started the 5th with a walk and a double with no outs. Red Devils chose to load the bases with the #4 hitter up. Hansen struck the next batter out but then lost the next batter to a walk that was resulting in Campbell County winning with a walk-off base on balls. With Campbell County scoring a walk-off, the Devils lost 5-6. The Devils did not have a strong offense, nor did they have a strong defense.
