Dorothy Marie Wright Garland of Knoxville, age 89, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday December 2nd. Dorothy was such a wonderful, loving, and devoted mother and grandmother to so many and loved everyone with a special love. Dorothy is preceded in death by daughters Linda Rudd, Patsy Curnutt Wilson, and Betty Gibbs; son Alan Wright. She is survived by sons Ronny Wright (Teresa), David Wright (Sharon), Johnny Wright, and Terry Wright (Tressa); daughter Debbie Huggins (Mike); 29 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren.

Beulah B. King, age 90 of Oak Ridge, went joyfully to be with the Lord December 3, 2017 at Alexander Guest House Assisted Living. She was a member of Royce Baptist Church for 48 years. She began work as a sales associate at Knox Department Store in 1973 and went on to work at Proffitts, and then Belk where she retired November 2016. She is preceded in death by husband Harold King. Survived by daughter and son-in-law Gail and Jack Taylor, of Farragut; granddaughter Devin and husband Mike Inman; grandson Bobby and Andrea Taylor, of Knoxville. Family will receive friends 5:30p.m.-7:00p.m.

Charis Beth Lay, age 70, of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on December 1, 2017. She retired from East Ridge Uniforms.

She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years William “Bill” Lay and his children.

Katherine Ann (Anderson) Richardson – age 80 of Andersonville, passed away peacefully at home on December 1, 2017 surrounded by her children. She was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.

Veatta Scates – age 45 of Knoxville, passed away suddenly November 29, 2017.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Scates; daughters, Ashley Coffey and Taylor Scates; son, Deaderick (Kayla) Brown; granddaughter, Anastasia Brown; mother, Diane (Raymond) Wilkerson; sister, Judy Scott; and brothers, Randall (Ann) Barnitz, Eugene (Kristi) Wilkerson and Jason (Angie) Wilkerson.

Danny Ernest McCarter, age 70 of Powell, TN passed away Thursday November 30, 2017. He was an United States Army Veteran and served as a medic in the Vietnam War. He was also a Silver Star recipient. He was a former member of West Lonsdale Baptist Church and was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Powell. He retired from Fi-Shock/Woodstream after 35+ years of service and was a member of the American Legion Post-2. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed traveling with his son to different MLB parks. He loved being around his family, especially his grandchildren.

George Hobert Murphy went to be with the Lord November 29, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He left a great legacy behind. He was the son of the late Henry and Lula Murphy. Preceded in death by his wife Christine Murphy and son Phillip Wayne Murphy. Survived by son David (Kathy) Murphy; daughters Bobbie (Bob) Stanton and Carolyn (Barton) Phelps; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters Charity Hensley of Kentucky, Dorothy (J.C.) Bryce Garrin Olinger, age 15, of Powell, went to be with the Lord on November 28, 2017. Bryce was a ray of sunshine to everyone around him. He was always laughing, always happy, and had a smile that would light up a room. He loved music, swimming, traveling, but especially found joy in spending time with his family. Bryce faithfully attended church, was a student at Powell Middle School where he was a member of the CDC class. He was affectionately called “Bryceroni” by many who loved him. Bryce impacted people’s lives without ever saying a word and will be deeply missed.

Mary Tillie Tallent, age 86, passed away November 27, 2017. She was a member of Blue Springs Baptist Church of Sharps Chapel. Preceded in death by parents Clarence and Elva Carr; brothers Clarence Jr. and Lloyd Carr; sisters Illa Maham and Anna Carr. Survived by beloved husband Elmer “Budgee” Tallent; son Jim Tillie and wife Sharon; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; five step children; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; brothers Milen Carr of Halls and David Carr of Missouri.

L.C. “Sonny” Bruce, Jr., age 71, of Knoxville, went peacefully to be with Jesus on Friday, November 24th, 2017. He was born on July 6th, 1946 to the late L.C. Bruce, Sr. and Helen Murray Bruce. He graduated from Central High School, the Tennessee Military Institute, and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served during the Vietnam War with the 1st Battalion Combat Unit on Hill 881 during the Battle of Khe Sahn, as a rifle sharp shooter. After being wounded during combat, he was later awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

Marjorie Gamble Gardner, born August 26, 1924 and died November 25, 2017. Preceded in death by husband of 61 years marriage, Charles B. Gardner; only daughter, Carolyn Gardner Buttram; parents, Ira and Callie Gamble; and three half-brothers, James, Thornton, and Frederick Gamble.

Spencer Neal Baugus, born April 2, 1982, flew to Heaven on the angel express on November 21, 2017. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maelyn Baugus. He was a great son, loved and cherished by his mama, Charlotte F. Baugus; father, Doyle Baugus; sister, Spring Baugus; brother, Bobby Baugus; grandparents, Janice D. Tacker, John Tacker, and Jesse O. Aaron Matthew Collette “Matt”, 31 of Knoxville, passed away November 23, 2017. He was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed racing with his dad and fishing with his son. Barbara Pinkston Sumter, born January 25, 1935, went to be with the Lord on November 22, 2017. She retired from KUB after many years of dedicated service. Barbara was also a long-time member of Salem Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and directed the children’s choir for many years. She enjoyed bowling, and spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Pinkston, and Tom Sumter; and her parents, Rex & Pauline Hammer.

Wayne Arlis Collins-age 86 of Sharps Chapel passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a member of Blazing Star Lodge #455 F. & A.M. Wayne served as a Union County Commissioner for over 29 years and other offices associated with the county. Lelia Gentry-age 88 of Maynardville, born August 16, 1929 passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Physicians Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Millers Chapel United Methodist Church. Imogene Vandergriff Andrews, age 85, of Maynardville, went to be with the Lord on November 20, 2017. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Mack Vandergriff and Elijah Andrews; parents, Thurman & Bertie Johnson; brothers, Roy, Eugene, J.T., Hobert, Edgar, Danny, and Joe Johnson; sister, Juanita LeSueur and 7 half brothers and sisters.

Walter David Pyle, age 61, of Knoxville, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 17, 2017. He was a Navy Veteran who loved his country and had respect for others who served. He had a great love for his family, pets, boating, music, outdoors, hiking, and was an avid reader. He strived for perfection in everything he did, and graduated in the top of his class from nursing school. He worked as an RN for many years. He had a kind heart and was always willing to help others. David will be missed by all who knew him.
