Edgbert David, Frye, Jr.

Edgbert David Frye Jr (AKA Kojak or Chief)- aged 82 of Washburn passed away at his home surrounded by family on October 4, 2026. He was saved at 10yrs old at Washburn Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member as long as his health allowed. David served the people of Grainger County for nearly 50 years with both the Grainger County Police Department and Rutledge City Police Department. He was a graduate of Washburn High School, Class of 1962. He was preceded in death by his parents, Opal and Edgbert Frye; children, Pam Frye and Scotty Joe Frye; and brother, Ronnie Frye.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sue Frye; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Amy Frye; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Danny Collins; grandchildren, Faith Frye, Ryan (Erica) Petty, Megan (Adam) Dalton, and Jacob Collins; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would also like to extend a special thanks to Smoky Mountain Hospice.

The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2026, with the funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Cooke-Campbell Mortuary Chapel, Rev. Randy Beeler and Rev. Danny Collins officiating with music by Becky, Dillon, Devin and Drew Farmer. Interment 11 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2026, Bowles-Needham Cemetery, Washburn. Family and friends will meet 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home to travel with the funeral procession. Pallbearers: Adam Dalton, Chris Frye, Gary Frye, Jeff Hopson, Leon Spoone, Ryan Petty.
