Horace Maynard Middle School’s Red Ribbon Week is an annual campaign dedicated to promoting drug prevention and a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The week included a highly successful and well-attended Family Night, designed to connect students and families with crucial community resources and provide a night of fun and engagement.

The evening was organized by HMMS counselors Tammy Doyle and Lisa-Marie Brown, who worked to create a welcoming and informative environment. A key component of the event was the strong presence of Union County community support groups and student groups from HMMS. These organizations were on campus to meet with families and hand out valuable information regarding the support and resources available right here in Union County. The emphasis was on prevention, awareness and ensuring every family knows where to turn for help.

A major highlight of the evening was the presence of the UCPS Book Bus. Students and families were thrilled to board the bus and choose free books to take home, promoting literacy alongside health and well-being. This was organized by Lauren Effler, Sara Maness and Martha Warwick.

To add to the fun, candy was available for students of all ages, ensuring every attendee had a sweet treat.

The night concluded on a high note with an excellent band concert performed by the talented HMMS band, under the direction of Hope Williams. The students showcased their hard work and musical skill, providing a memorable finale to the Red Ribbon Week celebration.

The outstanding turnout for this year's Red Ribbon Week Family Night demonstrates the strong commitment of the Horace Maynard Middle School staff, students and the wider community to fostering a safe and healthy environment. Everyone is already looking forward to watching this meaningful tradition continue to grow and positively impact families in the years to come.
