2nd “Gathering of the Generations” emphasizes local history and ancestry

By Alice Hamilton, HCA board secretary
A 2nd “Gathering of the Generations” sponsored by the Hamilton Cemetery Association is set for Sept., 13, 11:00 a.m., at the Union County Museum and Genealogical Library, 3824 Maynardville Hwy., Maynardville, Tn. The first Gathering was last held in Sept. ’23. Ancestry displays and updates about the Hamilton Cemetery will be shared.
This year, the event is expanding its audience beyond the Hamilton ancestors to those who are descendents of any family buried in the Hamilton Cemetery, Union County, located on Mill Pond Hollow Rd. More than 32 surnames of families are in this local historic burial ground.
Admission is a dish to share with so all can enjoy lunch together.
After lunch, invitees may visit the Hamilton Cemetery, find family graves, talk with other’s descendents, and see the stone preservation efforts underway in the cemetery. Later, travel to the Tolliver- Hamilton Log Cabin, Kettle Hollow Rd., and walk through the cabin which is furnished as it would have been in the 1800s. It’s a history lesson for all, especially children and grandchildren.
The “Gathering of the Generations” will offer an experience in history, genealogy, art, food and music, and friendship. Contact and/or RSVP to Charlie Hamilton, president of the Hamilton Cemetery Association Board: spike9250@gmail.com. For more, see Hamilton Cemetery Association on FaceBook.
