Walk 4 Water Union County will host its Fourth Annual Fundraiser

UNION COUNTY, Tenn. (April 29, 2026) – Walk 4 Water Union County will host its Fourth Annual Fundraiser to support the drilling of safe water boreholes for the villages of Naminyagwe Muyenga, and Agaruru B #3 in Uganda. The Walk 4 Water Union County event will be at the Union County Farmers Market at Heritage Park in Maynardville on Saturday, May 16. The check in time will be 9 a.m. The program will start at 10 a.m. and the walk will follow immediately after the program.

Walk 4 Water Union County participants will traverse a 1.3 mile walking trail, symbolizing the average distance Ugandan women and children travel to retrieve water, largely from unprotected sources including open ponds, livestock water points, and polluted ditches. Local Cub Scout Pack 401 and Scout Troop 4401 will lead the Walk 4 Water.

The Walk 4 Water Union County program will kick off at 10 a.m. with a welcome from Walk 4 Water Union County Chairperson Desiree Hensley followed by an opening prayer from Pastor Corey Carrol followed by Father Samuel Mungai speaking about the challenge of Ugandans living with extreme poverty and extreme water scarcity. Prior to the start of the walk, participants and community members will enjoy live dance performances. After the walk, participants can shop the farmers market vendors, and enjoy delicious lunch and desserts available for purchase from Menza’s Italian Beef & Bakery food truck as well as from the Union County Farmers Market vendors. A portion of the proceeds from Menza’s food sales will be donated toward drilling deep water wells in Uganda.

The TN 90 Bluegrass Band will play between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The celebration will be complete with free face painting and balloon twists for the kids, and dance performances by the Union County Line Dancers and the E Kapuna Wahine E Kamealoha Polynesian Dancers.

“This will be a family fun celebration of all the blessings we have in Union County while raising funds for wells in Uganda where millions of people do not have access to clean, safe water,” said Hensley. “The overall community support has been amazing, and the faith community support from Irwin’s Chapel United Methodist Church, St. Teresa of Kolkata Catholic Church, Miller’s Chapel United Methodist Church, and City Hills Church has been overwhelming.”

“We are so grateful to the wonderful community of Union County,” said Angie Simon, Hope 4 Kids Executive Director. “Thanks to your help, we can relieve the genuine suffering of thousands of men, women and children that contend with multiple life-threatening challenges every time they retrieve or consume water.”

Walk 4 Water is the signature fundraiser of Water 4 Kids International, a division of Hope 4 Kids International, a non-profit working to provide clean water to children and families who are suffering through extreme poverty and disease. Walk 4 Water fundraising supports the non-profit’s international efforts to provide clean drinking water solutions along with the gospel of Jesus Christ to areas of extreme poverty around the world.

Water 4 Kids International has celebrated the opening of more than 1300 boreholes, bringing fresh safe water to over three-million people. Clean water is one of the best ways to prevent diseases in remote villages in which a minor ailment could be fatal.
In addition to drilling deep water wells, Water 4 Kids International also provides these communities with the presentation of the gospel, hygiene and sanitation education, as well as operation and maintenance training. When properly installed, these wells can last between 30-50 years with little to no maintenance.

Walk 4 Water Union County’s fundraising goal is $22,500. Registration is $25 for adults and $15 for youth aged 7 to 17.
