Protect Our House

Attitude is where it's at. This baby chick has the right idea. There is a brother or sister residing in that egg. Family comes first.

But what about protecting "our" house? Insurance is expensive nowadays. Those people in Florida suffered from Hurricane Ian in October of 2022. Yes, flood insurance is costly. No matter for us, some would say. We are high and dry here on our ridge in Union County, Tennessee. Nothing like a ridge side to channel water down to Norris Lake.

Those pictures on CNN of the damage to Ft. Myers, for instance, was heart breaking. Furniture and clothing piled at the curb as far as eye can see. Where will they dump it all? How will it be replaced?

Memories are attached to the things we own. Those pictures on the wall can't be replaced. That end table Dad made as a wedding present for us can't be replaced. Dad is gone. Mom's cook book with the hand written recipes is history, too. She, too, is no longer with us.

We had a friend in Michigan who lost everything in a house fire. She had linens from past generations and beautiful cut glass in teat antique China cabinet in the dining room. All gone. She had saved those linens and glassware. No more. She will use her "pretties" from now on. There is a lesson there for all of us. Tomorrow is uncertain. Enjoy today.
