During announcements at the Plainview Mayor and Board of Aldermen meeting on August 11, 2026, Alderman Keith Brantley resigned because he had moved out of Plainview to another county. His resignation was accepted. A replacement to complete his unexpired term will be appointed at the September meeting.

Then Police Chief Kenny Crider reported 60 calls and 8 citations and tendered his resignation. He explained that he would be leaving by August 31, 2026, to become employed by the incoming sheriff.

Incoming Sheriff Rick Carter was present and explained that his plan was to have a designated patrol assigned to each of the county's major areas. The patrols would assist the Maynardville and Plainview Police and provide safety and security in the county areas. He noted that currently the department had only seven deputies on patrol and he would be working to increase that number to the sixteen regular positions.

Prior to the meeting, the MBA held a public hearing for comments on the FY27 Budget Resolution 170. With no public comments being offered, the MBA approved the second reading of the budget during the meeting. The budget had originally been approved in May, but a mailing snafu caused a document to be omitted so the process had to be redone.

Regarding the budget, Alderman Josh Collins suggested that the fund balance for Plainview was exceptionally high compared to previous years. He suggested putting more money in future budgets for the fire department. Alderman Collins also opined that paying benefits like insurance for employees would enable employee retention. He also noted that Plainview may need to have the office open three days instead of just two. He thanked everyone for his opportunity to serve on the Board of Aldermen and stated that he would probably still be an interested citizen. Mr. Collins chose not to run for re-election. Austin Collins was elected to fill the seat and will take his oath in September.

During public comments, Elaine Williams spoke of several motorcyclists who were congregating at the edge of her property on Monday Road. She explained that they are playing loud music late at night, driving recklessly, have very loud engines, and have even run pedestrians who were walking to church into the ditch and caused at least one injury. She asked that patrols become more visible, laws be enforced, and something be done about congregating in the road and disobeying traffic rules. Chief Crider said that he had attempted to step up the patrol of Monday Road. He noted an issue with a motorcyclist in Mountain View also. He said that he and the deputies would be targeting these areas to prevent future issues.
