LVFD celebrates Christmas at Plainview

LVFD Assistant Chief Justin Hensley and Firefighter John Sexton get ready to enjoy Christmas dinner at Plainview Fire Station.

Luttrell Volunteer Fire Department and their families and friends enjoyed their Christmas dinner at the Plainview Fire Station in mid-December. Fire Chief Brad Woods welcomed everyone and encouraged them to not only enjoy the food but also the location. He also mentioned several of the LVFD blessings including new firefighters, improved equipment, and the expanded Plainview Station. He thanked the cities of Plainview and Luttrell and the many volunteer firefighters and citizens that provided the growth.

After Jeff Woods delivered the blessing, everyone filled their plates to chat and eat. Jessica, the chief’s wife, baked a succulent turkey breast and a mouth-watering ham. Other spouses and firefighters contributed cornbread dressing, cranberry fluff, green beans, sweet corn, buttery mashed potatoes and baked beans. They also provided an assortment of desserts including lemon cake, chocolate fudge cake, coconut pie, fudge, cookies, marshmallow treats, candy canes and treat bags.

The children watched a movie, “The Grinch,” on the large screen television. In keeping with the Grinch theme, Vice Mayor Richard Phillips sported a red hat with green fur from his Grinch outfit that he wore to the woodworker’s conference. He and wife Glenda donned festive, matching red shirts with naughty or nice. Besides being entertained by the Grinch, young children played tag and other active games in the other empty bay. The firefighters had moved the trucks and lined them up in the parking lot. The trucks were all decked out with wreaths and garlands to travel to Maynardville the next day for the Rescue Squad Christmas Parade.
