The Horace Maynard Middle School Lady Devils softball team put together a dominant performance to claim the Class AA District 2 Tournament championship, finishing the tournament undefeated after entering as the No. 1 seed.

Their championship victory over Rutledge was a testament to both their preparation and their poise under pressure. Late-inning heroics at the plate, combined with strategic coaching decisions to advance runners into scoring position, ultimately proved to be the difference-maker in a hard-fought title game.

In her first season at the helm, Head Coach Jessica Cooke guided the team to a championship. Reflecting on her team’s mindset throughout the tournament, Cooke said:
“I’ve always told them do not let the mistakes define you because they don’t. It’s how you move on to the next task and have your team’s back. Shake the mistakes and maintain a good head. Never quit! They’ve always had each other’s backs and I love that about them!”.

Individual performances also stood out with Kenzy McBee, Avery Bowman, and Regan Savage being voted to the All-Tournament Team while Pheobe Garner was named Tournament MVP for her outstanding contributions on both sides of the ball.

Good luck to the Lady Devils as they continue their postseason run!
