Horace Maynard Middle School Celebrates an Outstanding Spring

Horace Maynard Middle School is finishing the school year on a high note, with students and teams excelling across academics, athletics, and extracurriculars.
Over 50% of the 8th grade class will leave HMMS already earning high school credits—a testament to their hard work and academic focus. Even more impressively, six standout students are leaving with three high school credits each, giving them a major head start on their high school journey.
In athletics, HMMS teams have had an incredible run. The Lady Red Devils softball team clinched the regular season district title, while the baseball team made school history by winning the conference championship, the district tournament, and the regional title. Their success didn’t stop there—they also won sectionals and are now headed to the Final Four of the State Baseball Tournament, representing our community with pride and modeling what it is to be REAL!
Academic excellence is being celebrated at every grade level. Sixth and seventh graders were recognized at the school’s annual awards night, where they received honors for academic achievement as well as the school’s REAL awards, highlighting Respect, Educational Excellence, Accountability, and Living a Life that Matters. Students have also been making memories beyond the classroom. Eighth graders took their much-anticipated annual trip to Washington, D.C., while seventh graders enjoyed a fun and educational visit to Dollywood.
The school year will officially close on a celebratory note as HMMS promotes its 8th grade class to high school during a graduation ceremony on May 20th at Union County High School. It’s been a season of growth, achievement, and celebration at Horace Maynard Middle School—one that students, staff, and famlies will remember for years to come. Go Devils!
