Red Devils Golf Closed Season with TMSGA Tournament
After a great season, coached by Matt Barton and Joe McBrayer, the HMMS golf team saw some close matches and tough courses. Coach Barton and Coach McBrayer led the Devils through the season with their encouraging spirits and wonderful practices. The team was prepared for the tournament.
The Horace Maynard golf team hosted the Tennessee Middle School Golf Association E2 district tournament at their home course, Three Ridges Golf Course with Heritage Christian Academy, Carter Middle, HY Livesay, Rutledge Middle, and Sevier Middle. The Devils had a hard time going into the tournament due to Cade Ailor, Michael Buckner, and Ayden Barton not being present. Although the hardships were outweighed by the good times of the season, HMMS did not win the tournament. Carter boys and Sevier girls will advance to the Regional tournament at Millstone Golf Course. Coach Barton told the players from the very beginning,” Have fun or go home!”
On behalf of the team I would like to thank Coach Barton and Coach McBrayer for a wonderful season with great memories.

Red Devil Baseball Season Ends
The Horace Maynard baseball team completed a successful 2019 season with a record of 12 wins and 4 losses. Three of the four losses were by 1 run. There were some very competitive, close games this year. “That builds baseball character,” says Coach Edds.
The team finished 2nd place in the conference, behind a solid Jefferson County team. The league consists of Campbell Co, Claiborne, Cumberland Gap, Rutledge, Carter, and Clinton Middle Schools. The league will add Morristown East, Morristown West and Northview Academy to consist of a competitive 10 team league.
Coach Edds expects his group to be just as competitive next year with a few big shoes to fill. There are 6 eighth graders that will be moving on to high school. The Red Devils will return 9 seventh graders and 3 sixth graders with most of the pitching returning. “The future is solid as the current players are expected to improve and a few quality new additions hopefully joining the team,” stated Coach Edds.
HMMS Lady Red Devils Barnburner Against Clinton
The Lady Red Devils played a close game with Clinton in order for them to rank 1st in the district. Emma Sexton started out on the mound and was taken out after pitching one strike between two batters. She was relieved by Savvy Paul. Leading off for the Devils was Emery Bales, and Ava Biggs followed. Savvy Paul was just short of the fence and got Bales home which started a rally. The Lady Devils were up 8-2, but the defense was not solid and the Hawks started to catch up with 8-7. The next time up to bat for the Devils was three up and three down. The winning play for the Devils was by Aleyia Satterfield. The final score was 8-7 and The Lady Devils were first in the district once again.
