Having Trouble Seeing?
The obvious solution would be to get an eye exam! What? No vision insurance? Well, that can certainly be a limiting factor for many people who simply cannot afford an eye exam and glasses. Solution? Let your Union County Lions Club help! The Vision Clinic is held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at the Lions Club on Broadway in Fountain City. The exam and glasses are free. You do need to fill out an application so we can enter you into the computer and schedule a date and time for you. And you can get an application simply by contacting Ronnie Mincey or me. We can mail, email, or meet with you somewhere to provide an application. Once the application is submitted, it will be directed to the Lions member who organizes appointments for the surrounding counties.
I bet you are wondering what happens when you get to your appointment at the Clinic? You will work your way through “stations”. After being called from the waiting area, you will go to Registration. The next step is to have a brief medical history taken and your blood pressure checked. Every station after that will perform a specific eye test. Towards the end, you will see the eye doctor who will write a prescription for your glasses. There will be a table loaded with frames for you to look through, try on, and decide which looks best on you.
The Lions Club does have a basic lab on the premises for grinding lenses to your specific prescription. If your lenses can be made with this equipment, you will get your glasses that day. The optimum word here is “basic”. If you need bifocals or a lens that is more sophisticated than our equipment can produce, you will have to return next month to pick them up. If you need bifocals and prefer Progressive lenses, we can provide them, but there will be a $75 charge for Progressives.
All of the people working at the Lions Club Vision Clinic are community volunteers. We do this to help wherever we can. If you want an application, please either contact me at communityvolunteer5398@gmail.com, call, or email Lions Treasurer Ronnie Mincey at 865-278-6430 or MinceyR@ucps.org
