Farmers Market Kicks Off National Farmers Market Week at Youth and Corn Fest

The Union County Farmers Market is thrilled to celebrate its 15th anniversary during National Farmers Market Week (August 3–9, 2025), kicking things off with the Youth and Corn Festival on Saturday, August 2, 2025, under the new pavilion at Heritage Park. Join us for a day packed with fresh corn, live music, and family fun.

The Youth and Corn Festival, will bring together all our vendors, showcasing fresh corn, seasonal produce, baked goods, and handcrafted treasures. “This festival is a celebration of summer and community, where you can taste fresh corn and feel the joy of being together,” says Diane Trandum of Mama T’s. Enjoy a food demo highlighting creative corn recipes, and savor delicious offerings from local food trucks. Kids’ activities, fair entries, games, and crafts will keep the little ones entertained, while live music sets a festive tone under the new pavilion at Heritage Park. “As a board, we love seeing families connect over local food and fun—it’s what makes this event so special,” shares Donna Riddle, Board President. This festival promises a day of celebration and connection to Union County’s agricultural heritage.

Over the past 15 years, the Union County Farmers Market has blossomed into a showcase of local talent. From a handful of tents to dozens of vendors, the market now offers a diverse array of fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, specialty foods and artisanal goods every Saturday from May through September, 9 AM to 1 PM. The new pavilion in Heritage Park has transformed the market into a year-round destination, welcoming more visitors than ever. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the market thrives thanks to its all-volunteer team who is dedicated to enriching Union County.

Farmers markets are vital to communities nationwide. The Farmers Market Coalition reports they generate an estimated $2 billion in annual economic impact across the U.S., keeping dollars local and supporting small businesses. They provide access to fresh, nutritious food, promoting healthier lifestyles, and serve as social hubs that foster connection and culture. “Our market is the heart of Union County, where kids learn about farming and neighbors share stories,” Riddle says.

Beyond shopping, the market is a vibrant community experience. Events like the Walk 4 Water event and Health Care Day celebrate local culture and wellness, while programs such as Nourish Kids and the Youth Vendor Program inspire healthy living and young entrepreneurs. Off-season pop-up markets keep the community and vendors engaged year-round, ensuring the market’s impact endures.

Looking ahead, the Union County Farmers Market is set to expand its impact with a shared-use kitchen, designed to empower small culinary businesses. This facility will provide local bakers, caterers, and food entrepreneurs with affordable access to commercial-grade equipment, helping them grow and share their creations. “The shared-use kitchen is our next step to support local innovation and keep our community thriving,” Riddle adds.
