The fantastic annual Sharps Chapel Fall Festival Scarecrow Competition again asked festival goers to vote for their favorite of the 17 scarecrow entries. Each vote cost $1, and a total of 1008 votes were cast. Many thanks to Amanda Rae Simpson and her crew for organizing the competition and donating all of the money raised to the Union County American Legion New Liberty Post 212.
Fred England and an anonymous person purchased and donated food and drinks to sell during the festival. These concessions raised over $1,100, and this amount was donated to our American Legion. Amanda Simpson presented Vice-Commander TJ Stanley with a $ 2,200 check for both fundraisers at the Second Annual Veterans Appreciation Family Picnic at Wilson Park on November 15.
Union County American Legion New Liberty Post 212 would like to thank the festival goers at the Sharps Chapel Fall Festival for their generosity, and especially Amanda Simpson, Fred England, and Fred’s anonymous friend. The Veterans are very grateful for the financial assistance and for the support of the Union County community. The donations will go into the American Legion Post 212's fund, which is used to provide boxes of food at Christmas for Veterans and Veteran widows. The supplies in these boxes are extensive and include corn, stuffing mix, oatmeal, noodles, peanut butter and jelly, cake and frosting mix, flour, cornmeal, applesauce, potatoes, pancake mix, coffee, and much, much more. A huge box of food to help folks celebrate the holiday season! The Post also provides food, including meat, throughout the year to any Veteran or widow in need. The Legion used some of these funds to support Kelley’s Kids this Christmas. They will help anyone anytime they can. In addition to providing for the community, however, the Legion must also maintain its building on Veterans Street. This includes covering expenses such as heating, water, internet, bonds for club officers, and insurance. Your Veterans really appreciate the community support!!!
Can you help the American Legion New Liberty Post 212 assist our Veterans? Donations are gratefully accepted and can be mailed to the American Legion Post 212, P.O. Box 99, Maynardville, TN 37807. Or are you a Veteran who would like to help assemble the Christmas boxes this year? Vice Commander TJ Stanley would love for you to participate! Contact Union County Veteran Services Officer Mark Cooke at 865-661-7243 or Mark.Cook@UnionCountyTN.gov for the date and time. And Veterans meet for a delicious complimentary dinner at 6:00 on the first Monday of every month, followed by a meeting at 7:00 pm at the New Liberty Post 212 Hall at 140 Veterans St.
Thank you, Sharps Chapel Fall Festival, for supporting your Union County American Legion Post 212!!!
