Extension Office to Host Local, Homemade Christmas Wreath Workshop on December 17

Join us for a wreath making workshop!

The Union County Extension Office is inviting the community to celebrate the holiday season with a focus on local resources, sustainability, and handmade tradition. A hands-on Christmas wreath workshop will be held Wednesday, December 17 at 10 a.m. at 3500 Sharps Chapel Road in Sharps Chapel. The cost is $20, and space is limited.

Unlike mass-produced, imported holiday décor, this workshop centers on using natural conifers and winter greens sourced directly from Union County’s own forests. Participants will learn how harvesting local greenery not only enhances the beauty of seasonal decorations, but also strengthens community resilience and reduces reliance on factory-made materials.

The workshop will include:

Instruction on identifying local tree species

Guidance on gathering cuttings safely and responsibly

A discussion on simple, small-scale business opportunities using homegrown forest resources

Step-by-step wreath construction led by Agriculture Agent Shannon DeWitt and Family & Consumer Sciences Agent Abigail Thomas

All materials provided (participants may bring work gloves and cutters)

Registration is available online at tiny.utk.edu/unionwreath and early sign-up is encouraged due to limited class size.
