At a recent Union County Public Schools Board Meeting at the end of the 2026 school year, Dr. Childress, principal of the Tennessee Virtual Academy (TNVA) recognized several outstanding students whose accomplishments “reflect not only academic excellence and superb leadership, but also the commitment to representing TNVA and Union County at the highest levels”.

The TNVA MathCounts Math Club earned Gold Level Honor Status at the National Math Club's annual math competition. There are three categories that clubs can enter: Math in Art, Instructional Math Video, and Math with Community Service. Only nine total schools are recognized with three in each category from 2500 schools nationwide. The TNVA MathCounts Math Club received the Gold Level Honor Roll and $250 for their achievement. Teacher sponsors are Susan Burns and Heather Dorey. Students who were recognized included Serenity Allen, Sean Baggot, Willow Brethen, Theodore Brush, Lily Burns, Haripriya Garg, Savannah Howey, Rahma Moustafa, Alex Tiller, and Devin Wloch.

TNVA was the only virtual school to participate in the Tennessee Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference in 2026. Emma Pickett earned first place in Introduction to FBLA. Grace Horvath placed first in Introduction to Parliamentary Procedure, and Madison Ayodele placed third in Introduction to Business Procedures. They will represent Tennessee at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Texas. Their sponsor is Melissa Adams.

A special recognition went to Grace Horvath, who traveled to Washington, D. C., who was the student speaker for school choice and virtual education at the National Parent Leadership Conference that was hosted by Parents for School Options.

The Tennessee Virtual Academy is a free public school that is part of the Union County Public School System. Congratulations to all of these students and their continued success.
