2026 Boys State

American Legion Boys State has been an annual program of the American Legion since 1935. The mission of American Legion Boys State is to develop leadership and to bring the young men who participate to a full realization of the duties of the American citizen.

During the one-week, nonpartisan camp (May 24-May 29, 2026) at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, the students learn about the responsibilities of citizenship. The purpose of the camp is to teach government from the township to the state level. The practical and objective training includes students participating in nonpartisan legislative, law enforcement, and court proceedings at the city, county, and state levels. These are all operated by the students who are elected to the various offices. There are assemblies, bands, a chorus, and recreational programs as well.

Tennessee American Legion Boys State, a training ground for the leaders of tomorrow, is made up of counselors and 600 young men representing every county in Tennessee.

High school juniors in Union County will be selected and sponsored by the American Legion New Liberty Post 212. To apply for an interview and one of these Boys State opportunities, please contact Adjutant Norman Gillen at Adjutant@ALTNPost212.org as soon as possible.
