Do you remember the first thing you ever cooked? For me, it was cornbread. My Mamaw Girdle/Myrtle taught me how to make it. I was so excited since cooking was a rite of passage to me. One I almost failed.
Maynardville Public Librarian Mandi Suddath met some wonderful authors at the Wears Valley Fall Festival! Author Kelley Griffin generously donated a set of her books to the library. She writes romantic suspense novels that are intense and will keep you guessing. Kelley is not only an author but a mother of 5 boys, a wife to a marine, as well as, a school librarian. Excitement was in the air last week as the Luttrell Sassy Seniors were visited by some special guests. Second graders from Luttrell Elementary School brought Halloween joy to the seniors while dressed in their pajamas for spirit week bringing their trick-or-treating exhilaration with them. The seniors were delighted to dress up in imaginative outfits or wear a Halloween whimsical hat. And let us not forget our librarians who decorated to present a spooktacular atmosphere. The seniors were greeted with big smiles from the students and the seniors were ready to hand out delicious candies.
Union County High School has a full slate of tennis players for the 2024 schedule.

Making the boys team are Dalton Schreieck, Nick Wilson, Jace Walker, Max Corum, Lathan Garner, and Jaxon Bailey. Mike Johnson is the coach.
The Union County High School tennis program is a member of Division 1, Class A, Region 1, District 2 under TSSAA. The season begins in March.
Dozens of pies lined the tables at the UT Extension Union County Conference Room as judges from the Union County Family and Consumer Education Association tasted and marked their ballots during the Heritage Festival Pie Contest.
Henley DeWitt received $100 and claimed the 2023 Grand Champion title with her pie Goodbye Summer Lemon Zinnia Pie. Kathy Venturella's Apple Pie garnered first place and $50 in the fruit category. Receiving second and third place ribbons were Ashley Mike’s Skillet Apple Pie and Mia Roach’s Key Lime Pie.

Down on the Farm had a great turnout today where 4-Her's had the chance to share information with Maynardville Elementary like how to take care of their animals, be safe with their farm equipment, learn how dairy is made and learn how bees produce honey.
On Friday, October 6 and Saturday, October 7, 2023, District Attorney General Jared Effler and staff, in partnership with the Children’s Centers of the 8th Judicial District, hosted the Eighth Annual Dixie Roofing Clays for Children Sporting Clays Tournament at Iron Mountain Sporting Clays in Kodak, Tennessee. The purpose of the event was to raise money to support the Children’s Centers of the 8th Judicial District, comprised of Campbell, Claiborne, Fentress, Scott, and Union counties.
