Gabriella Annaleese Aljumaily a/k/a Gabi from Luttrell, Tennessee will be featured on the big screen in the heart of New York City as a part of the National Down Syndrome Society’s (NDSS) annual Times Square Video presentation on September 14th, 2019. The Times Square Video presentation kicks off Down Syndrome Awareness Month on the morning of the NDSS Buddy Walk® in New York City.

Bobbi Phelps-Wolverton, an award-winning author, will give a book presentation at Farragut Pharmacy, 11424 Kingston Pike, Farragut TN, Monday, September 16, 10 am-1 pm.

Behind the Smile is about her years as an international flight attendant during the 60s and early 70s; a time when passengers dressed for the occasion, when smoking was permitted, and when pilots allowed in-flight visits to the cockpit. Phelps-Wolverton writes about babies born during flight, harrowing landings in blizzards, and terrifying episodes in Vietnam and Egypt war zones.

I am going to use the space for this first article to introduce myself and discuss some of the topics and sources I intend to cover and reference. I am Joel Collins, a history teacher at Union County High School for the past several years. I have come to this writing invitation through Aaron Russell and Bonnie Peters, because I've taught Union County history at the high school for a few years. I have to say that I didn't just stumble into this; however, I was kind of born into it.

For patients with lower back or buttock pain that stems from the sacroiliac joint, a variety of chiropractic procedures can be applied and are often considered the first line of treatment. The chiropractic treatment goal for sacroiliac joint pain is to utilize a method that is best tolerated by the patient and yields the best outcome. Patients respond better to different approaches, so the chiropractor may adopt various manipulations to treat the patient’s sacroiliac joint pain.

Most people pucker up before they kiss, but not all lip puckers are for kissing. Some people use it as a term for dealing with something unpleasant as in the expression. “Pucker up buttercup.”

Year Two, Week Thirty-Two

Someone once called Lincoln “two-faced”, to which he comically replied, “If I had two faces, do you think I’d wear this one?”

Back in March of 2018 I submitted a recipe for Macaroni and Tomatoes, a staple in our house during the Great Depression. It still is a favorite of mine.

Recently, Anne and I were visiting a elderly couple I attend church with. She had been in an automobile accident. It was her first day home from the hospital. We took them two plates of cookies; one of chocolate chips and the other of sugar cookies. There is something about getting older that makes sweets especially tasty. I know.

Sycamore (Planatus occidentalis) is a very common tree in our area, and easy to find growing along streams and lakes. It is also one of the easier trees to identify in the woods because almost all of its identifying features stand out.

Hold out your hand, palm up. Now, imagine there’s a solitary peanut nestled in the center of your hand. You’re just holding it there, looking at it and thinking about how small it is.

I’ve heard this saying for years and because of a recent event was curious, so I looked up the source. Voltaire is credited with coining this phrase, or one very much like it, back in the 1700’s. Voltaire was many things, some of them admirable, and I particularly admire his beliefs on freedom of speech and religion. However, there is one thing he definitely was not.
