HMMS CTE Spring Market Returns April 18

The second annual Horace Maynard Middle Schoo Spring CTE Market is set for April 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. This event will offer the community a chance to shop local and support Horace Maynard Middle School's student based enterprise programs.

The market will feature a wide variety of homemade and locally crafted goods, including t-shirts, sewn items, wooden products, and agricultural items. In addition to student-made products, vendors will offer permanent jewelry, Mary Kay items, and more.

Guests can also enjoy a selection of food trucks while browsing the market.

Surprise pop-up farmer’s market

The Saturday before Easter, the Union County Farmers Market decided at the last minute to organize a pop-up market before their official market season begins on May 2. Several vendors were new to the market, and this was their opportunity to showcase their wares, while others have been staples for customers for many years.

CAB to host Summer Fest May 8

Union County families are invited to kick off the summer season with an evening of fun, resources and community connection at the upcoming Party in the Park: Summer Fest, hosted by the UC Community Advisory Board (CAB).

The event will take place on Friday, May 8, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Wilson Park, and is free and open to the public.

Successful Easter Egg Hunt held at Wilson Park

Green (grass), blue (sky), yellow (sun), orange, and red (to remind us of the blood Jesus shed) were the colors of plastic eggs filled with goodies at Wilson Park on Easter Sunday, plus a few golden eggs with cash prizes. The weatherman cooperated by moving the much-needed rain to Saturday night instead of Sunday afternoon, clearing the way for gorgeous weather during the hunt.

Former HMMS student opens bakery

Horace Maynard Middle School is celebrating the success of one of its own as former student Grace Nirmaier launches her new business, Baked by Grace. Grace has quickly made a name for herself, drawing in loads of customers since her grand opening.

“The opening is going great!” Grace shared. “We’ve had tons of customers coming in each day. We’ve been making hundreds of items every week and have sold around 100 pounds of chicken salad so far.”

New Study Shows Chiropractic Care Associated with Reduction in Opioid Use Disorder in Patients with Low Back: Pain Part I

A new multi-institutional study, led by University Hospitals Connor Whole Health, found that adults with newly diagnosed low back pain with or without sciatica who initially received spinal manipulative therapy administered by a chiropractor were significantly less likely to be diagnosed with opioid use disorder over a two-year follow-up compared to those prescribed ibuprofen.

HonorAir Knoxville's Last Flight

HonorAir Knoxville was created in 2007 to take World War II veterans to Washington DC to experience the memorial built in their honor. In 2011, the HonorAir mission was expanded to include Korean War veterans and, in 2015, Vietnam War veterans. This program is entirely funded by donations and run by volunteers.

2026 American Legion Auxiliary Volunteer Girls State

The 80th session of the American Legion Auxiliary Volunteer Girls State (ALA VGS), a weeklong camp for rising high school senior girls, will be held at Lipscomb University in Nashville this month. Over 500 students from all Tennessee counties will be in attendance this year. The program is nonpartisan and focuses on citizenship and teamwork.
