UCBPA awards scholarships

Union County Business & Professional Association presented scholarship awards to eight graduating seniors at the Union County High School Senior Awards and College Signing Day on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. Receiving the Jeffreys Memorial Academic Scholarship was Rileigh Collins. Rileigh will attend East Tennessee State University to pursue a dual major in physical therapy and business.

The Union County Lions Club awarded Riley Cole, Gavin Graves and Joy Turner $300 each from the Mark Martin Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually in memory of Union County elementary music teacher Mark Martin, who passed away on May 16, 2015. Mark taught general music at Big Ridge, Sharps Chapel and Luttrell Elementary schools and assisted with band at the middle and high school.

Plainview Awards Scholarship

Mason Weaver receives the City of Plainview Academic Scholarship for 2021. Pictured are Vice Mayor Richard Phillips, Mason Weaver, and Mayor Gary Chandler.

The City of Plainview awarded its 2021 Academic Achievement Scholarship to Mason Weaver. The annual scholarship for $500 is given to the graduating senior with the highest grade point average who resides in Plainview. Mayor Chandler congratulated Mason for his outstanding academic achievement and and thanked his parents for all of their support for him.

UCBPA hosts 27th Scholarship Golf Classic on June 19

The 2021 Union County Business and Professional Association Golf Classic will be played at the beautiful Three Ridges Golf Course, 6101 Wise Springs Road, in Knoxville on June 19. Tee time is 1 p.m. with a barbeque lunch by Li'l Jo's included in the entry fee. Golfers will receive goody bags, door prizes, as well as compete for Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive.

Union County Business and Professional Association awarded their 2020 scholarships at a recent meeting.
Receiving the Jeffreys Memorial Academic Scholarship is Savannah Jones. Savannah is currently attending UT Knoxville and majoring in food and agricultural business. She will receive a total of $3,125 to further her education.

Mayor Gary Chandler awards the Plainview Scholarship for Academic Achievement to Skylar Bates

The City of Plainview made several donations at its June 2020 Board of Aldermen meeting. Mayor Gary Chandler awarded the Plainview Scholarship in the amount of $500 for outstanding academic achievement to Skylar Bates for having the highest grade point average as a graduating senior who resides in Plainview.

UCBPA Tops $100,000 in Scholarship Awards

Union County Business & Professional Association awarded scholarships to three Union County High School Graduates in 2019. Recipients spoke at the BPA June meeting and thanked the membership for their scholarships. Ethan Dyer received the Service Scholarship for performing over 200 hours of volunteer time to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital and another 100 hours at Milan Baptist Church and as a coach for Union County Youth Basketball. He will attend Lincoln Memorial University and plans to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in Business.

Farm Bureau Presents Scholarships

The May board meeting for Union County Farm Bureau was packed with excitement. Three scholarships were awarded as well as a presentation by State 4-H Council members and Tennessee 4-H Congress attendees.

Insurance that the youth of today are prepared for tomorrow’s challenges as they grow more independent falls under the responsibility of us as teachers and role models. Communities progress from the education of adolescents, resulting in growth and sustainability.
