Billy Gene Barnes-age 84 of Maynardville went home to be with the Lord Friday morning, May 2, 2025 at his home after a long illness with cancer. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Hubbs Grove Missionary Baptist Church and a graduate of Horace Maynard High School, Class of 1959. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a retired employee of Maynardville Utility Department and sends a special thank you to his friends and community for their love, support and prayers. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Lee and Clovia Barnes; Wife, Helen Barnes; Daughter, Linda Cox.

He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Houser; grandchildren, Ronda Bond, Traci Graham, Joseph Houser; great-grandchildren, Levi Bond, Annaleigh Graham, Elijah Graham, Liam Mitchell. Best friend, a loving person and caregiver, Betty Cox. Brother in heart, Randall Brooks. Another special thanks to his loved ones for their unwavering care.

The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2025 with the funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. Sunday, Cooke-Campbell Mortuary Chapel, Rev. Johnny Smith, Rev. Jerry Lynch officiating with music by Jerry and Pat Lynch. Interment 11 a.m. Monday, Burch Cemetery, New Tazewell. Family and friends will meet 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home to go with the funeral procession. Pallbearers: Johnny Kitts, Allen Collins, Joseph Houser, Wendell Padget, Wayne Zachary, Jimmy Warwick.
