Betty Jane Hickle
Betty Jane Weeks Harvey Hickle, age 93, and her twin brother James were born May 19, 1932, to Sarah Lee Weeks and James Weeks. Betty lived a wonderful, successful, happy and honorable life. Betty was one of 6 children and the third oldest. Betty outlived her siblings. Betty passed peacefully on November 16, 2025.
Betty’s marriage to William [Bill} Harvey on December 24, 1950, was one of the happiest days of her life and they proudly celebrated each and every year. They were lovingly known as Bill & Betty! Their marriage would last 35 years until Bill’s death in 1985. Bill’s funeral service was held on Bill’s & Betty’s 35th Wedding Anniversary, December 24, 1985.
Bill & Betty had four children, Sheila Carter (Dennis), Cindy Camper (Kenny), Jeri Bouchard and Edward Harvey (deceased). Betty had 8 Grandchildren: Melissa Gonzales (Jeremy), Dr. Lauren Bernal (Christian), Janie Ledgerwood (Steffan), Kristi Lundin, Chester Lundin (deceased), Brent Fersner (deceased), Justin Harvey, Jackson Harvey and 4 Great Grandchildren: Mason Kade Gonzales, Presley Brooke Gonzales, Leah Ledgerwood and Noah Ledgerwood.
Betty was particularly proud of the accomplishments of her granddaughters. Janie Ledgerwood, Betty’s namesake graduated from The University of Tennessee with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications/Graphic Design and works at Balfour Beatty US in Portland Oregon. Melissa Gonzales graduated from The University of California, Riverside and earned a Bachelor’s Degree and two Master’s Degrees in Education and is the School Principal at Adams Elementary in the Riverside Unified School District, Riverside, CA. Dr. Lauren Bernal, graduated from The University of California, Berkeley earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular Toxicology and Nutritional Science followed by graduating from The Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine and is an OBGYN at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, Ca.
On August 4, 1989, Betty married Kenneth Hickle, and they were married for 33 years prior to Kenneth’s death in 2022. Kenneth was a wonderful husband, stepfather and grandfather for Betty’s family. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Betty was a successful business owner. She owned and operated Harvey’s Assisted Living for 35 years. Betty was well known in the medical services community. Her Assisted Living Home enjoyed a reputation for being one of the best Assisted Living Homes in the area. Many of her patients were referred to her by local physicians.
As we grieve her passing, we are proud to celebrate a life well lived. Betty would want to recognize and thank her best friend of more than 50 years, Helen Herman, special friend Bob Sharp and her loving in-laws, Joe, Sue, Nicole, Mila and Lance Hickle.
Betty’s devoted daughters, Sheila Carter and Cindy Camper offer gratitude and appreciation to the entire organizations of Claiborne County Health & Rehabilitation and Suncrest Hospice. Our Mother was provided the best care and always with love and respect. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, but love leaves a memory no one can steal. Rest in peace our beloved Mother.
The family will receive friends 1 to 2 pm Friday, November 21, 2025, with the funeral service to follow at 2 pm, Cooke-Campbell Mortuary Chapel, Rev. Leonard Goin and Rev. Jerry Tharp officiating. Interment to follow at Hickle Cemetery, Luttrell. Arrangements by Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville.
