Joan Marie (Crawford) Kitts-age 88 of Knoxville passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones Wednesday, October 7, 2026. She was born and raised in Maynardville. Joan found her greatest joy in caring for her family. She cherished her cats, enjoyed canning vegetables, loved sharing stories of her childhood and family history, and was known for her kind heart, listening ear, and ability to keep a confidence. Joan was a trusted friend and confidante to many. Preceded in death by her husband, Ray E. Kitts; sons, Ralph Kidwell and Tommy Kidwell; beloved twin sister, Jean Boles.

She is survived by her daughters, Vicky Hipshire (Larry) and Angela K. Kitts (Janice); brother, Lewis Crawford (Katherine) of Florida; special nephew, Allen Boles (Joy); grandchildren, Jessica Spafford (Matt), Lori Hurd (Eric), David Kidwell (Lakely), Patricia Kidwell, Candace Kidwell; several great grandchildren; great great grandchildren, Scarlett Marie Stover and Michael Adam Stover.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who provided care, support, and kindness to Joan throughout her life, especially during her final years. Special thanks to Caris Hospice nurses Alicia and Emily for their compassionate care.

A private graveside service will be held Monday, October 12, 2026, at Pleasant View Cemetery, Maynardville, Pastor Kenneth Palmer officiating. Pallbearers: Larry Hipsher, Matt Spafford, Spencer Hurd, Savana Hurd, David Kidwell, Eric Chesney. Arrangements by Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville.
