BPA awards scholarships to UCHS grads

Mia Effler received the Jeffreys Memorial Academic Scholarship.

At the senior awards celebration on May 14, the Union County Business and Professional Association awarded six scholarships to outstanding Union County High School seniors.

Amelia (Mia) Effler received the Jeffreys Memorial Academic Scholarship. Mia will obtain her real estate license while she pursues a degree in business from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Devon Wilson has dreamed of constructing and maintaining power lines, and the Career and Technical Scholarship will help him to realize his dream as he attends Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Oneida-Huntsville to become a licensed power lineman.

Community service and helping people, especially youth, is a passion of Ava Buckner, who developed the Pink Box project to provide clothing and basic necessities to youth in Union County. Ava will use her Founders for Service Scholarship to work toward a degree in biomedical engineering.

UCB&PA awarded three Opportunity Scholarships. Hannah Groot will attend Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville and use her scholarship toward a degree in business.

Reece Moore, who enjoys helping children with speech and swallowing issues, will be enrolled at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville to become a Pediatric Speech Pathologist. Reece aspires to serve in a clinic similar to Mission Hope.

Mollie Miller loves to help people be their best selves. She will first obtain her cosmetology license this spring and begin her journey to obtain a degree in business in the hope of one day having her own beauty shop.

To date, UCB&PA has awarded $140,825 in scholarships and helped 147 students realize their dream of a post high school education.

Reece Moore received an Opportunity Scholarship.
