Union County 4-H members Jaxson Moore, Luke Groce, and Madeleine Groce had the opportunity to represent Union County 4-H at the Tennessee Valley Fair on Monday, September 14. The youth spent a couple of hours of their evening putting their baking skills to use by preparing delicious homemade biscuits for fairgoers to enjoy.

As visitors made their way through the exhibits at the Tennessee Valley Fair, they were able to stop and sample freshly baked biscuits prepared by the Union County 4-H members. The activity gave Jaxson, Luke, and Madeleine an opportunity to share something they enjoy doing while also interacting with members of the larger community.

All three youth already had experience with baking, so the activity allowed them to put their existing skills into practice. From preparing the ingredients and making the dough to baking the biscuits and getting them ready for fairgoers to sample, the youth handled the process from beginning to end.

The evening was also a great opportunity for the 4-H members to practice teamwork and responsibility. Working together to prepare food for visitors required cooperation, organization, and attention to detail. Most importantly, the youth were able to see how skills they have developed can be used to provide an enjoyable experience for others.

4-H encourages youth to learn by doing and provides opportunities for members to explore their interests while developing practical life skills. Experiences such as the biscuit-baking activity at the Tennessee Valley Fair allow youth to take skills they have developed at home and through 4-H and put them into practice in a community setting.

Jaxson, Luke, and Madeleine did a wonderful job representing Union County 4-H and sharing their homemade biscuits with fairgoers. Union County 4-H is proud of these members for their willingness to participate, work together, and share their talents with the community.
