Plan Your Fall Garden for a Successful Harvest

As summer begins to wind down, it's the perfect time to start thinking about your fall garden. Whether you're hoping to enjoy fresh vegetables well into autumn or even harvest through the winter months, proper planning is the key to success.

The Union County UT Extension invites home gardeners of all experience levels to attend "Planning a Fall Garden," an educational workshop designed to help you make the most of the upcoming growing season.

The workshop will be held Wednesday, August 5, at 1:00 p.m. Participants will learn when to plant fall crops for East Tennessee's climate and discover which vegetables perform best during the cooler months. Extension experts will also discuss selecting the right varieties, managing common garden pests, and techniques for extending your harvest into the winter.

Topics include:

Choosing the best cool-season vegetables
Selecting varieties suited for fall production
Understanding the ideal planting timeline for East Tennessee
Reducing pest problems in the fall garden
Planning for a possible winter harvest

Whether you're planting leafy greens, root vegetables, broccoli, cabbage, or other cool-season favorites, this workshop will provide practical, research-based information to help your garden thrive.

Registration is now open at tiny.utk.edu/UnionGarden.
