In August, 2026, Clinch River Valley State Park in Hancock County became Tennessee's newest state park and is number 67 in the park system.. The Tennessee State Parks Conservancy just purchased an access point on the Clinch River and the historic Kyle's Ford General Store. The Store dates back to the 1940's and was most recently known as River Place. River Place had some of the best fried balogna (baloney) sandwiches in these parts, and you could eat lunch on the balcony and watch the river meander by. The general store is to become the visitor's center which will not only save the historic structure, but also allow future generations to learn the significance of Kyle's Ford to the people of Hancock County and northeast Tennessee. The access point will provide recreational and fishing opportunities. River Place also had cabins but the article did not mention if these would remain in private hands or eventually become part of the park.

The park is in the early development stage. But Alex Weiss, Tennessee State Parks Conservancy Executive Director. remarked on the conservancy website, “The Clinch River Valley is a special place for people and nature...”. He continued, “By acquiring key tracts that will become a new state park, we are helping conserve the natural beauty of Clinch River Valley while creating new opportunities for people to experience this remarkable part of Tennessee. “

The Clinch River Valley is a perfect example of the diversity of landscapes in Tennessee. The Upper Clinch boasts a diverse ecosystem that exists in rock cliffs, rolling hills, and small farms. The Clinch River Valley Park should spur tourism and add some employment opportunities in this distressed county.
